Today, a great legend passed away, the beast, Mountie. I write this because I honored him as a barbarian. It all started long ago...long, long ago.
He was a strong and loving boy. He was skilled in battle. He had dark hair, dark as the night sky. He loved nature and the outdoors very much, like he was part of it. He loved his family very much, and he would do anything for them. He trained with his dad every night so he could become stronger. They hunted together and fought playfully, and Mountie loved it. His parents were Barbarians. They had left their tribe long ago and lived in the wilderness, far from civilization. They hadn't seen many people because it was far away from the nearest city of Buya. Mountie's father had always told him about townies. His father had told him that townies had destroyed most of the wilderness, and he told Mountie what the townies had done to his ancestors. Even though he had never seen these townies, he hated them. They had destroyed his homeland and killed his ancestors. But when the time came, he met the townies. When he was only 13 yuri's old, soldiers of Buya came to his hut in the wilderness. They boiled over the land like a cloud of darkness. Mountie heard the soldiers coming. His dad and mom told him to run away, but he stayed and fought the soldiers, and one by one, the soldiers fell. With the soldiers, his dad fell, also. Mountie was enraged. He was angry at the townies, and what they had did to his father. As he remembered everything, his vision became blurrey. He could now see nothing but the color of blood in his vision. He went berserk, and chopped down the six remaining soldiers with his axe. He was panting when he blacked out.
Mountie was awoken by the sound of running water. He was laying on the rough grass, and he was in pain. His ribs hurt severely. He sat up and tried to remember what had happened. He remembered the townies coming to his home and killing his father, but he couldn't remember anything beyond that. He wondered what had happened to his mother. He stood up and clutched his ribs. The sun was going down when Mountie finished his shelter. He took the pieces of wood and layed them down in one spot, where he woke up. He took the rock he found and walked over to the stream. He knelt down and picked up a rock. He went over to the wood, and began trying to start a fire.
It took about a quarter of an hour to start the fire. Mountie grabbed a piece of meat he had skinned, and a stick, and started to roast the deer, over the fire. He waited till it was sizzling, and then took a bite. It was delicious! He devoured the meat quickly and looked up at the sky. It was filled with stars, and they filled the sky with its' evening light. He guessed the next thing he would do was sleep. He layed down on the cool grass and closed his eyes. It was silent, just like back home. He began to cry, for his mother and his father. He knew he would never see them again. There was no chance that a boy like him could fight off a whole army and rescue his mother, if she was still alive. Or...could he? That question crossed his mind many times that night, and he stopped crying. Tomorrow, he said to himself. Tomorrow...
He woke up to the sound of the birds chirping around him. He yawned and stood up. He picked up his spear that was laying next to him and started to walk into the forest. He was going to find civilization today, and figure out as much as he could about the city of Buya. He grabbed the deerskin he had got yesterday and started to walk.
It was a good hour before Mountie had seen anything but trees. He had found a dirt trail, and a sign. Luckily, his mother had taught him to read and write. It read: l Welcome Travelers! Buya is north! l He grunted and began to walk north. He saw many deer when he was walking. He didn't think he would need food until the night came...He wasn't even hungry. He approached the city gates. There were two guards standing at the gates. They had swords in their sheaths. Mountie tried to walk through but they stopped him. "Halt! Who are you? What is your business here?" One of the guards barked at Mountie. "I am a traveller of the lands, I am here for exploration alone." Mountie replied. "You are too young to be traveller!"
The guard shouted. "Tell us the truth!" The other guard yelled. He had his hand on the hilt of his sword. "No need to shout...I am here for a herb that was said to cure a disease my father has...That is my business here." The guards looks at eachother. "Very well." The guard said. Mountie walked through the gates. Stupid townies, he said to himself, laughing. He walked into the city and saw children running around. He saw many merchants and buildings. He saw a sorcerer casting spells. He walked down the street. Countless merchants offered him accessories. He saw a woman standing talking to her children. He asked her where the butcher was. The pointed him to a small, little house with a painting of a cow above the door. He grunted and went inside the house. Inside, there was the smell of beef. There were cow heads hanging on the wall. There was a skinny, stingy-looking woman behind the counter. "Yes?" she said. "How much would you buy this for?" Mountie asked and threw the deerskin on the counter. She examined it quickly and said "Sixty gold coins." She handed him the money. He looked at her, then turned around and walked out of the building. Across the street was a store with a picture of a sword above the door. He guessed it was the blacksmith, and went in. There was a large man inside. "Hoho, what do we have here?" The man said in a deep voice. Mountie didn't bother to say hello. "I need a weapon." He said. The man looked at him. "Well, 'at's what I'm 'ere for isn't it? What kind yeh need?" He asked. "An axe. I need an axe." Mountie said. The blacksmith reached under the counter and brought up a shiny, glittering, and sharp axe from the counter. "Will 'dis do, sir?" The blacksmith said. "How much?" Mountie asked. "50 golden coins." The blacksmith replied. "I'll take it." Mountie said, and he handed him the coins. "Would you like a sheath for it for 5 extra coins?" The blacksmith asked. "No, I'll make one myself." Mountie answered. The blacksmith burst out laughing. "Make...one...yourself...Ha..HAHAHA!" He laughed. Mountie walked out of the store. He went back to the butcher's store and got himself roasted rabbit meat to eat. He devoured it and left the store. Mountie sat down in the street and thought about what to do next. He thought about his parents and the soldiers that killed his father. He was done thinking about that. He stood up and asked a woman where the palace was. She pointed him to a large building with a huge gate. He barged in the gate and walked into the palace. Two guards were waiting by the doors. "HALT! What do you think you're doing?!?" Shouted one of them. With the axe in Mountie's hand, he swung at both of them, killing them instantly. Five more guards ran toward him with wooden swords. They beat Mountie to the ground, and Mountie blacked out.
Mountie was awaken by cold water. He opened his eyes and sat up. There were people around him. They looked at him with ease. He was confused. Where was he? Why was he here? He stood up and looked around. He was in a village. The people around him had dark skin and dark hair, and all of them had a tatoo of a helmet with horns on their right arms. The people around him suddenly scattered. Mountie looked around and tried to say something, but the words didn't come out. Mountie looked forward and saw an old man, probably his father's age. "You are Mountie, are you not?" He said to Mountie. "Where am I? Who are you?" Mountie answered. "You are in the village of the Barbarians of Odin, the war chief of the sky. I am Kyster, the elder of this village. Now answer me, are you Mountie?" "I am." Mountie replied. "How did I get here?" "It is a long story...Please sit down." Kyster said. Mountie sat down on the dirt. "Some other Barbarians and I rescued you from the guards at the Buyan palace. We brought you here. I used to know your father. His name was Xyelos Kyi'shmay, was it not?" Kyster said. "That was my father, yes." Mountie answered. "I am sorry about the recent events with your parents and their death." Kyster said. "How did you know my parents? And how did you know they died?" Mountie asked. "Your father was in this tribe long before your mother gave birth to you. He left us because he wanted you and his wife to live alone. He asked me to look after you, if anything ever happened to him. I know he died because I found your house in ruins, and I found your father's body. I know this is a lot to take in, and I know how you feel. You'll have your revenge, trust me." Kyster said and sighed. "Revenge?" Mountie said. "We are going to raid the Buyan palace in two days. We are going to crush the townie soldiers that killed your father. You are welcome to come, if you like." "How do I know you are not lying to me?" Mountie asked, peering at Kyster. "I have no proof I am not lying. It is your decision to believe me. I guess you're going to have to take a risk." Mountie thought to himself. "Fine, I will join your raid. How shall I prepare?" Kyster laughed. "Prepare? Heh...Sleep. We have already taken care of the preparations. Just rest, and in two days, we will crush the palace, inside-out." Mountie nodded. "Where do I sleep, Kyster?" Kyster pointed to a tent. "There." Mountie walked to into the tent. It was small, but it would do. He layed down and closed his eyes.
The two days went by fast. Mountie did nothing but eat dried meat and fresh baked bread and sleep. His bruises were healing fast, and his muscles ached less and less every day. He thought about the raid a lot over the the last days. He had often dreamed about doing this someday. He also thought about Kyster, and his father. He didn't cry anymore. He was going to get his revenge and avenge his fathers' death, one way, or another.
The time had come for the city raid. He had been awoken early in the morning by Kyster. Kyster told him they decided to strike while the whole city was sleeping, that way, they had an advantage. Mountie followed Kyster out of his tent and into a army of barbarians, ready for battle. One of the Barbarians handed him an axe, very sharp with engravings on the shaft. Kyster walked into the front of the horde of barbarians and led them through the forest. In less than 30 minutes, they had arrived at the city gates. The guards look at each other nervously. Kyster ran ahead and slit both of their necks. He muttered something. The time had come for the real part of the raid. The battle. "Charge!" Kyster screamed, as the hundreds of barbarians ran into the city gates, and chopped at the nearby houses. Kyster ran ahead into a blacksmith's house. He found the fat townie upstairs sleeping. He chopped his head off, and left the house.
Kyster was already on his way to the palace. The rest of the barbarians demolished the houses, and slaughtered the townies. Kyster and Mountie arrived at the palace. Three guards came running at them with spears. Kyster, with a spin of his body, killed two of them. Mountie ducked and sent the other guard flying over his head, then finishing him with a blow to the skull. Kyster and Mountie ran into the palace. There weren't any guards left. All of them had gone and tried to help the townies, leaving their palace unguarded. Kyster and Mountie began to chop the pillars that held the palace roof up down. Mountie chopped away with so much rage, he chopped three pillars down, when Kyster wasn't even done with the first. Suddenly, two guards came flying out of no where with two swords. Mountie blocked one of the soldier's blows and landed his axe in the soldier's stomach. The other guard was slaughtered by Kyster. Kyster gestured Mountie over to him. "This is for you, from your father. Your father used it with all his strength, and I am depending on you to do the same. Kyster handed Mountie a double sided axe. It was very shard. Mountie took the axe and smashed the last remaining pillar with one blow. It fell and Mountie had gotten his revenge. For the first time in a while, Mountie was a little happy. He raised the axe above his head, so everyone could see the Beast's strength, and what he did to get revenge. Mountie was a Barbarian till the end, and that is who he was. What he did for his family was remarkable. His legacy died today, but it will never be forgotten.
